Soft Knit: a cotton knit family, not a single garment

Soft Knit is the name of a fabric family rather than one product, and it runs across sweaters, cardigans, knitted pants, beanies, scarves, leg warmers, shorts, skirts, dresses and singlets. Almost all of it is cotton, from 100% cotton in the plainest pieces to blends made for stretch in the ones that need it.

What makes it a soft knit rather than a fine knit

Gauge and hand. Soft Knit is the heavier, softer-handed knit of the two; Fine Knit is the lighter one that layers under things. Soft Knit Rib is the same family with a ribbed structure, which is what gives the flare pants and the mini skirt their stretch. If you are deciding between them, the question is whether you want the knit to drape or to hold.

What size should I take in Soft Knit?

The same size you take in our other knitwear. Nearly every style comes in XXS to XL, and some also come in XXL and XXXL. Knitted pieces give more than woven ones, so if you are between sizes and want a closer fit, take the smaller.

Building an outfit from it

Because it is one fabric family, the pieces go together without thinking about it: a sweater with the knitted pants, a cardigan over a singlet, leg warmers with the mini skirt. The knit matches because it is literally the same knit.

The related knits

Our Soft Knit Rib collection is the ribbed version, Soft Knit narrows to the plain knit, and Fine Knit is the lighter gauge. Our materials page covers how we choose the fibers.

Colors and care

The colors run from Black, Navy and Nutmeg through Double Cream and Misty Grey Melange to Evergreen, Matcha Green, Golden Clay, Light Blue, Papaya, Pink and a Juicy Apple Stripe. Wash cold and dry flat rather than on a line.
